A wonderful couple and a wonderfully cool fall evening makes for great pictures! Enjoy Some favorites!
We always love photographing couples in love, and even more so with the beautiful fall landscape! Enjoy a favorite of ours from Chris and Katie’s beautiful wedding day!
Steve and Jenni’s wedding was another favorite of the year made absolutely wonderful by Steve and Jenni’s warm and friendly personalities! We always love seeing the historic parts of Alexandria, and it was a sheer treat to be able to visit some beautiful and historic spots for pictures! All in all it was a lovely day with many fond memories. Thank you Steve and Jenni for allowing us to share in your wedding day! Enjoy some of our favorites!
Steve and Jenni provided us with some details about their wedding day:
Couples name – Jenni Brewer & Steve
Date – October 19, 2013
Ceremony venue – Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, 310 S Royal Street, Alexandria, VA
Reception venue – Collingwood Library & Museum, 8301 E Boulevard Dr, Alexandria, VA 22308; Steve and I fell in love with the view of the Potomac River and the gorgeous trees, which should look amazing in October.
Florist – Cynthia Damico, our florist, is doing a combination of high and low floral arrangements in shades of berry/wine.
Wedding planner – Emily Rusch is our wedding planner. We met her while touring another Old Town site and found her very easy to work with, so we asked if she’d be willing to take a side job and she’s been terrific in helping think through logistics and, perhaps most important, making the bride feel like everything will be ok.
Cake – Our cake is from Fluffy Thoughts in McLean, VA. Their tasting was to die for and we were thrilled to work with them on our cake flavors. We’re doing three flavors, including a cool hockey puck groom’s cake for my Penguin’s fan. Our wedding cake is topped with an adorable vintage couple.
Bride’s dress – My dress is a classic Rosa Clara ball gown that makes me feel regal. I can’t wait to wear it!
Bride’s shoes – I’m wearing gold pumps with a big ribbon on top. All of my girls, from the flower girl to the bridesmaids, are wearing gold shoes.
Bridesmaids apparel – We wanted a little vintage flavor in our wedding and the bridesmaids dresses capture that flair with fun cocktail dresses.
Colors/Theme – Our colors represent us – Steve’s favorite color is purple and mine is red. We combined them into shades of wine/berry and it’s been fun incorporating them into the reception décor. I’d describe our theme as classic and romantic with a vintage undertone.
”First dance” song – You Are The Best Thing by Ray Lamontague
Any other details unique to your wedding – There will be a lot of handmade labors of love woven throughout the wedding and reception. Steve and I sat together to make the streamers that guests will wave when we exit the church; we made little coloring books and I Spy activities for the children in attendance; and Steve is handmaking our guest bench, a spin on the traditional guest book where guests will sign a bench that will be placed inside our new home. We also hand picked the vintage furniture that will be used for the outdoor lounge area.
A little bit about you two, and how your wedding reflects who you are – Steve and I are wanna be DIY’ers and our wedding certainly reflects that. From our favorite colors to the vintage flair (Steve and I love antiquing), the wedding is definitely us. We also wanted to make it family oriented because our family and friends are very important to us and so we’ll incorporate family wedding photos, as well as activities to entertain our little guests.
After meeting Lauren and Eric at their engagement session last year, Sasha and I instantly fell in love with this fabulous couple! Needless to say we have eagerly been waiting for the opportunity to photograph their wedding! Their wasn’t anything about this wedding that we could not have loved, except the nasty rain. Any other details unique to your wedding - We wanted a guestbook that we could look back on and truly remember the personalities we had surrounding us on this amazing day. To capture that, my dad built a life-size picture frame to hang polaroids with pictures and messages from each guest. We weren’t sure whether everyone would participate, but the day after the wedding we went through the pictures and messages and were WOWed by the amount of pictures and hilarious notes we received.
A little bit about you two, and how your wedding reflects who you are - Eric and I have been best friends for quite some time, and when we began this wedding planning process decided from the start the most important thing to both of us was to plan the best party of our lives with the best PEOPLE in our lives. We decided not to stray from the people we are every day just to adhere to wedding “protocol” – so we picked our favorite band versus a normal wedding band (and they were AMAZING), a dessert table full of our favorite sweet-things versus a formal wedding cake (Eyecandy Charlottesville – WOW, wow, wow), a taco truck to fulfill the late night munchies we get after EVERY wedding, and I even “let” the groom have his say in the floral arrangements from the amazing Amy Webb (believe it or not, it was Eric who “had to have” the tall branches!). Looking back just a couple days later, we are SO happy we made the day about all of the things we loved – it not only meant we worked with the nicest & most gracious vendors on the planet, it also truly allowed for the best night of our lives (so far).
